I am using the Power Query add in for Excel 2013 and have probably a stupid question that I can answer using testing, but I don't want to kick anyone off their computer while I test how it acts... 🙂
I just started looking at and using PQ, this is my second project. I am using a workbook that is kept in a path on my machine alone and I would be the one that refreshes the query, however the dashboard itself is for a co-worker and uses pivot charts that are built using the query. I have 2 questions:
- Will the dashboard even work if the connection is a file on my computer and not a shared file? This is important because the workbook that feeds the query is sensitive information and we don't want to put it into a shared folder.
- Do I need to have my co-worker download PQ even though I will be the one upkeeping the spreadsheet that feeds the query to begin with and will then go in an refresh the pivots?
If this isn't going to work do you have an idea of what would work better? I have another sheet for a different department but this update is so much easier and cleaner; I'm hoping to be able to do it with query and remake this other one using PQ as well. Thanks for you help, and sorry for the stupid question.
I should add this will only refresh once a month.
Hello,
It will work perfectly fine for them to view the cached data, if they by chance try to update the data they will get an error, but they will still be able to view the existing data.
