Reusing dataset in query

Hi,

I wish to reuse a dataset in one Power Query file, in a second file. It is a connection-only query which is an appended file consisting of 20k rows.

I saved the data by right clicking the query, Export Connection File and saved it as an ODC file. However, I can't import it into the new file because ODC doesn't seem to be a recognised file format. Is the only option to load the 20k rows as a new worksheet in my first file? Thanks

Hi Linda,

To import the ODC did you go to the Data tab > Existing Connections as per tutorial 4.21 of the Power Query course? If yes, then what error do you get?

Mynda

P.S. I've moved your forum questions to the Power Query Course Members forum. Please post them there in future.

Hi Mynda,

Thank you for the reminder. With Data tab > Existing Connections, I was able to import the ODC file but the checkbox for 'Add to Data Model' was greyed out which will prevent me from analysing the data. Secondly, each of the supporting files which forms part of the appended file had an error to it (see screengrab)

Perhaps it will be better to save a copy of the original file and add the new data to it, rather than trying to export it? Thank you.

Hmm, no idea why there are errors. Maybe the cache, but I wouldn't have thought there was a caching issue when you first connect.

Anyway, I'd only use ODC queries if I want to share a data set with others and I'm expecting to make changes to that query, which will also need to be shared with others.

If not, I always just save a copy of the file.

Mynda
