Hi,
Can anyone please tell me if it's possible to extract only the field data (field name and content) from a PDF form document? Ideally I'd like to use "From Folder" to do this as a batch task, but I can't see how to get the field data instead of just the flat document text.
Many thanks in advance!
Pieter
Hi Pieter,
I'm not sure what you mean by field name or field data, but Power Query can load any data from a PDF that's in a Table.
Are you able to share the PDF?
Mynda
Hi Mynda,
Thanks for replying so quickly. I suspect that the answer lies in when you say "...that's in a Table".
I've created a sample PDF form (attached), with some explanatory text, but it's the PDF form field contents that I need. It's simple enough to do from within Acrobat Pro, but that's not what my client's asked me to do.
It seems like a logical requirement!
Best wishes,
Pieter
Hi Pieter,
Thanks for creating the sample PDF. Power Query can't see the field data, so I think this is a non-starter for Power Query, unfortunately.
Unless you can create the PDF another way, maybe capture the data in an Excel Form.
Mynda
Hi Mynda,
Thanks for confirming my fears. Sadly, your solution to use Excel forms won't fly as my client has already got several hundered completed PDF forms. A shame they didn't check with me first!
I know it's possible to bulk extract using Acrobat Pro as well as a few third-party application - I was just hoping that PQ could do the job. I wonder if it's worth my while going onto a Microsoft forum to ask if they have any plans for a PDF Form Data connector.
Thanks again,
Pieter
Bummer. I'd ask in the MS forum. You never know what other ideas that might come of it.
