Hi

I have a csv file exported from Survey Monkey - 170 submissions.

One of the questions asks for funder, funding type and amount but there are ten of these (3) multi-columns (name of funding source 1....,name of funding source 2... etc).

How would I unpivot the columns so that I can analyse by funding source, funding type etc.

I've attached a truncated anonymised version.

Any help very welcome.

Casey

Hi Casey,

Please provide some sample data that illustrates the problem. This data only has one answer in column G, which I presume is the column that could contain multiple items.

That said, have you seen that you can Split By > delimiter and choose 'Rows' to split into? Maybe this is all you need.

Hi Mynda

There should be columns running up to column O.

I have attached as an excel table and removed top row (the question) to make clearer.

Hi Casey,

My understanding is you want one column for type of funding, one for amount and so on. If so, you need to duplicate the query, once for every column you want to merge i.e. one query that contains funding source1, another for funding source 2 and so on. Remove the additional funding source columns etc. so each query only has one record for each source type. Then rename the columns in each query so they're identical i.e. instead of Funding source 1 they will all be 'Funding Source', then append the queries so the data is stacked one under another.

I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you get stuck.

Thanks Mynda.

I was thinking just that as a solution - will give it a go.
