I am unable to import the tables from the web per lesson 2.01.  I receive the following message in my 2016 Excel version:

DataSource.Error: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.
Details:
https://markets.ft.com/data/league-tables/tables-and-trends/Equity

Please advise as I am getting this error message on my home and work computer.

Hi Stephen,

Not sure. Are you able to browse to that web page without a problem?

Did you choose 'anonymous' connection type at the dialog after entering the URL?

Once I enter the URL web address, I see the following below with no option to choose a connection type.

Once I click "OK" I receive the following message.  I'm not seeing where I would select a connection type.

You only get presented with this option the first time you ever access the web page. See image attached.

Typically a web connection is anonymous. You can edit the credentials vial the File tab > Options & Settings > Data Source Settings > Edit Permissions.

But you haven't answered my first question, so I'm not sure if this is even the issue.

Yes I am able to access the web page without any problem and I verified anonymous was selected.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for confirming those points.

I found this thread that suggests clearing the SSL state in IE. IE is used by Power Query to get the data from the web.

I'd give that a shot as I'm not familiar with this issue and can only guide you to other solutions found online.

Let me know how you get on.

Mynda, I found the solution on the web as it required updating the registry.  See the following.   Thanks for your help.

Value: SchUseStrongCrypto

Type: REG_DWORD
