Hi Mynda,
I am doing a dashboard using power query which I will send to a client. They will update the data required every month (we use the same industry data) and so I need to use the method you showed us in pq.7.03 so that the queries will continue to work.
The difference is that the "sourcefiles" folder will contain 3 different data types that can't be merged - there will be 3 different queries to clean the 3 data files. I have done as instructed re: Table Path etc and copied only the first two lines of Mcode since I need filter out the other two data files. Everything works upto the point were I expand the table to load the data - I then get an error - can't find the table "Pathtable" to import.
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, of course. Uploading my workbook and the data files for your reference.
Tnx
Tracy.
Hi Tracy,
There weren't any queries in the files attached. That said, if you need to get each file individually then you shouldn't be using 'From Files > From Folder' you should use 'From File > From Workbook' and referring to 7.04 Dynamic File Paths. Obviously you'll need 3 different file paths.
I hope that points you in the right direction.

Hi Mynda,
I realise there was no query in the Dashboard-1 file, and that is due to the query not loading because of the error as explained in my query above.
I will try the from file > from workbook instead. However, I only have one dashboard worksheet. Do I then have all three file paths in the one worksheet, I can't see how that will work, but I will let you know.
tnx
Tracy.
Hi Tracy,
Yes, 3 queries and 3 file paths in the worksheet in separate tables.
Mynda
Hi Mynda,
I now get a source error - please see attached screen snip.
The workbook is saved in same folder as the data.
However, don't you have to convert data to tables when using get data from file from workbook?
I don't want to have to convert all the data to tables which is one of the reasons I wanted to use get data from folder. I have used get data from folder many times when I have different data files in one folder from which I need to create different queries and all worked perfectly prior to trying to use dynamic paths. So i'm not sure that was the reason for the original error as per above.
tnx
Tracy
Hi Tracy,
Your image is so small that I had to zoom in to see it, but then it's too pixelated to read. You could make your window size considerably smaller (there's loads of blank space either side of the advanced editor) and then take the screenshot at full size so there's no loss of quality.
If you use From Folder then your data doesn't need to be formatted in an Excel Table. Only From Workbook requires this.
I can't really read the error, but it looks like the file path actually contains two file paths as it looks like there's a space between them in the 'Details' line in the error message.
