Changing to Date Type = error

Hi Mynda,

I have some data that I imported in from a CSV file. The data itself was correctly formatted as 'Date' in the csv file. (Capture.png)

However, after importing into Power Query, the Date type is set to 'Text', and when I try to change it to 'Date' I get errors. (Capture2.png)

What's going on and how do I fix this? (Capture3.png)

Kind regards

Katrina

Hi Katrina

I am not familiar with PQ but from your Capture.png it might be the date format problem, 31-10-2018 instead of 31/10/2018.

From Capture2.png you will notice that the dates are left-aligned i.e. Excel does not recognize them as dates.

Any date/number/time will be right-aligned by default.

Hope this helps.

Sunny

Hi Katrina,

It'll be a locale issue. Try right-clicking the date column > Change Type > Using Locale > here you can choose your location's date format.

Also, I'm going to move this question to the Power Query course members forum. In future you can post your questions there as you're a course member and I'll be sure to reply to these as a priority.

Mynda - you're amazing!!

As soon as I changed the Locale to English (Australia) it worked!!

THANK YOU!!

Happy for this thread to be closed now as issue has been resolved!

EDIT: P.S. I just realized that you cover this off in your Power Query course 4.03. I only just got up to this section today!!
