Hi all
I'm trying to append a set of queries, which themselves have appended queries below them in external files. My top query is in a new workbook but when I try and link to another file to pick up the query, it says the query is in the wrong format. It works if I have all of the underlying files in the same workbook, but this is not an option due to volume.
Does anyone know if a query can be built in a new workbook and link to queries in external files? I'm getting the message that is not in the expected format.

I'm wondering why you think there is a volume issue with having all of the queries in the same workbook? There is no data limit with Power Query, the only limit is based on where you put the data when you've gathered it all. Excel has a row limit, but Power Pivot/Data Model doesn't have a row limit.
Normally you would have one workbook that gets all of the data from the various files/sources and bring it into that file using Power Query. You don't need to create queries in those other files first and then bring the queries into the final file.
