Hello,

I have problems uploading the .txt files that I should add to my model in order to continue with the course. I managed to see the file in the dialogue box where in the video the separator is a tab instead of a comma (my file has commas). I chose the option of using comma as a separator but PowerPivot didn't separate the information in two columns. Seeing this, I cancelled the process and tried to start it over. The problem is that, when I tried to perform the uploading action again, PowerPivot doesn't seem to find the file anymore and keeps "thinking" (I can't manage to have a preview of the table it has to insert to the model)...I have checked the model and the .txt table has not been added. How can I solve this problem?

I would appreciate any support!

Thanks in advance.

Hi Juan,

I think something has changed in Excel 365 and it has introduced a bug with reading text files. I've saved a pp_3_returns.csv file in the working files that you can use instead as it's not affected by the bug.

You can download the working files again, or just download the csv file here.

Hi Mynda,

My csv file will just think forever. I am not able to upload the csv file to the model.

Hi Maurice,

Welcome to our forum!

I think there is a bug with importing csv files at the moment. Open the CSV file in Excel, then File > Save As a .txt file and try importing that instead. Alternatively, use Power Query to get the data from the CSV file and then load it to Power Pivot (data model) from there.

I had problems separating the data in pp_3_returns with PowerPivot. The interface wouldn't let me divide such data into groups even if changing separators (ie. from (t) to (,).

Then, I realised that I had to clean my data! In fact, the data set is displayed in this format "230,returned". In this file, the quotation marks are preventing PowerPivot from running correctly. To solve the problem, i) open the text file, ii) choose Replace from the ribbon, iii) type in Find what:, and iv) leave Replace with: blank.

Now, the data in the text file should appear without the quotation marks: 230,returned. Save the file and run the query again, selecting the correct separator. Job well done 🙂

Hi Dario,

Great to see you're practicing. There is an alternate file under the video for that lesson that you can use. Be sure to check for notes under videos as there may be relevant information for the lesson.
