I have excel 2013 and will be using power pivot to create dashboards and reporting for executives. The executive team is using excel 2010. Will they be able to use the front end dashboards and reporting that I create even though there is a version difference? They will not need to access or use the back end files or data
Hi Lauren,
The short answer is yes and in this case it means that those with Excel 2010 will not be able to interact with the Slicers in your Excel 2013 generated report. It effectively becomes read only.
If you're happy for them to just open and view the report, then that's fine, they can do that. However, if you want them to be able to filter the data using the Slicers, or make any changes to the PivotTables then they will need to upgrade to Excel 2013 or 2016 Professional Plus, or you will need to downgrade to Excel 2010.
The reason for this is because when you change filters in PivotTables via Slicers, or direct, it requires a query on the Power Pivot model, and these are structured differently in Excel 2010 and 2013. However, Excel 2013 and 2016 Power Pivot models are the same, so files created in these versions are compatible with one another.
