New fields not appearing on PivotTable Field List, even after Refreshing

I'm using Excel 2010, and I just finished lesson 7.04. When we added the QtrYear Column to the model, and then returned to the regular Excel workbook, the field did not show after clicking on the Refresh option. I went back to the model, redid the field, and once I did that, the new field suddenly appeared. I thought it might have been a glitch, so I kept going.

Towards the end of the video, after we added the YearQtr field and sorted the QtrYear by YearQtr, the same thing happened again. Once I returned to the Excel worksheet and pressed the Refresh option given on the Field Pane for the Pivot Table, nothing happened. I tried again redoing the field, but this time, the new field just did not popup at all, even after clicking the Refresh option. The YearQtr field is NOT appearing under the Dates dropdown, so I can't make it a slicer to complete the lesson.

What am I missing?

Thanks 🙂

P.S. Love the course, btw!

Hi Gabriela,

That sounds odd. Can you please send me your file so I can do some testing on my Excel 2010.

Thanks,

Mynda

Thank you for your prompt response, Mynda!

I just went back to the file, ready to attach it here, and when I opened it to confirm the behavior once more, the field is suddenly there. I guess I had to close it and open it for it work? I didn't try that yesterday. All is well now!

Hi Gabriela,

Glad it's working now, although you shouldn't have to close the file completely for the field to appear. Maybe your PC just needs a reboot.
