You can use the OData link to connect Power BI to Xero.

I'm not sure if the API will allow you to generate the trial balance at date intervals. I know you can get a report like this, which you could then unpivot. You'd have to inspect the API documentation for Xero.

I'm not a Xero expert. You'd have to speak to them. As far as I can see the recommended way to connect to Xero is using the Odata connector they recommended in the Xero store. Odata is a common data connection type for online databases.
