In your course you talk about speed gauge charts and how you dislike them because of the real estate they take up and the limited value they provide. I totally agree but folks in my organization love them and I would like to sway them to a different type of visualization but not sure what to suggest. I believe some folks are using horizontal bullet charts but wonder if you have any other ideas on how to present information that includes an actual, threshold, target and maximum representation. I also have limited success in creating horizontal bullet charts. Is there documentation that includes how to create these types of charts easily?

Thanks

AJB

Hi Adele,

Have you tried the Power BI Custom Visual Bullet Chart? It's pretty easy to set up. There's also a custom visual called 'Ultimate Variance' that might be of use.

In Excel I'd tend to use a column chart with 100% overlap for the budget and actual, and then a lines and markers for the threshold and maximum, but Power BI doesn't have that flexibility in their column charts yet.

Let me know if you get stuck.
