Power BI Modelling Error?

Hello there

I am trying to create a sustainability model, but have obviously gone wrong somewhere, as I cannot use filter the 'reporting lines' in measures.  For example, if I want to use a measure to create the budget figure for Generator Fuel in Liters, I would need to access the $ value for Generator Fuel from the Budgets Data table, and divide that by the fuel price for that month.  However I can't seem to access those individual lines to use in a measure.  In this case 'Genertor Fuel - Pula'.

I did try adding a dims table for the reporting lines, but I still cannot get it to work.

Where am I going wrong, please?

Many thanks

Hi Michelle,

Are you able to share your file so I can see the data structure. Please also give me an example of the calculation you want to perform and desired result. Perhaps create a mock-up in Excel.

Hello Mynda

Please see attached.  My apologies, I thought I'd attached them in my initial query.

An example of one of thing things I am trying to create is the fuel in liters budget: Fuel in BWP (from budget data) / fuel price (from diesel prices dims table) = Budgeted liters of fuel.  I just want to populate the budget data, before I start making other comparisons and doing other calculations.

Many thanks and have a great day.

Hi Michelle,

The table containing the diesel prices is not related to any other table in the model. If you create a relationship between the DieselPrices and DaysinMonth tables via the Month columns, you can then build a table visual, that is close to the example provided in the Excel file, containing the following fields:

  • Month (from the DieselPrices table)
  • Reporting Line (from the GeneratorBudget table)
  • Diesel Price (from the DieselPrices table)

Note, this sentence: "An example of one of thing things I am trying to create is the fuel in liters budget: Fuel in BWP (from budget data) / fuel price (from diesel prices dims table) = Budgeted liters of fuel. " doesn't make any sense to me because I cannot find anything called BWP.

If you're still stuck, please provide mock ups of what you're trying to do and relate them back to the actual table and field names in your model. Also include a mock up in Excel using actual data from your model that ties back to the figures in Power BI so I can be certain I understand what you want and can check any results against what you're expecting to see.

Mynda
