Dear Forum,

Happy New Year to all!

Due to Microsoft releasing new updates to PBID on a monthly basis, and me be OCD and updating immediately whenever updates are available, I am now about three months of updates ahead of my colleagues, including my supervisor.

Problem

1. My supervisor likes to make modifications to my online published reports, then I have to deal with the fact that many of my visualizations no longer work, and/or load times are extremely slow or indefinite.

2. To further complicate matters, my report was created in a particular version, and over the course of several months, various changes to the report have been requested and made. This means the report has been edited in newer versions of PBID, as well as online by my supervisor. I suspect that this may be the cause of my broken visualizations and slow/indefinite loading problems.

Are there any 'rules of thumb' for going about this?

3. I am seriously considering reverting to whatever version he is using, for the sake of avoiding the compatibility problems I have been facing.

4. Is there a compatibility matrix that addresses these concerns?

5. Is there a site where specific legacy versions of PBID may be downloaded?

Thanks for any help and advice.

HNY to you too, Mark!

I think the rule of thumb is to update all installs at the same time to avoid these problems, but I think you probably know that 🙂 I'm not aware of a compatibility matrix as such, especially since it's free to download the updates, so there's no reason for someone not to update.

Thankfully, fellow Microsoft MVP, Ken Puls, maintains a copy of the older versions of Power BI desktop that you can download here.

Hope that helps.

Mynda
