Thanks to Anders and Mynda for responding to my previous post!
I have attached an Excel showing my referrals on the detail (Phase) tab, the dashboard, and the pivots. When I try to refresh the data to include all 39 referrals for May, my pc freezes and says I don't have enough memory. Although that could be true, I'm betting I just don't know when and where to refresh: ie, when I have the pivot table cell highlighted that I want to update, or when I have my detail tab all highlighted?
Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I know my data is relatively small and should not be crashing.
Sandra
Hi Sandra,
I don't have enough information about where your data is coming from or how you are refreshing.
If you click the 'Refresh All' button on the Data tab of the ribbon it will refresh everything; all PivotTables and all connections to data, both internally within the file and external connections. It could be this that is resulting in the memory issues.
Alternatively you can refresh a single PivotTable at a time by selecting a cell in the PivotTable > right-click > Refresh.

Hello Sandra,
Sorry, but I do not see any file attached.
Normally this kind of issue is due to errors in the Excel file structure and not the computer.
Assuming that your file is having .xlsx file extension, to do a test to see if this is the case, do save a new copy of your file as a binary file, *.xlsb. Does it work better? If so, do save a new copy of your *.xlsb file as a normal file with the *.xlsx extension. How does that file work?
If the issue remains regardless of files you work with, then you probably need to start troubleshooting.

I have tried right-clicking on the pivot cell to refresh, and get a message that "reference is not valid"--just having no luck at all updating the new version of the Phase tab. I did resave as a Binary Worksheet, with no difference. When I look below the "Select files" command, my file shows as attached to this post, so whatever else I need to do, I don't know! Thanks to all for the help.
Hi Sandra,
You need to click the yellow 'Start Upload' button to actually upload the file to the forum.
Please post a screenshot of you right-clicking a cell in the PivotTable to refresh it. I've never heard of that error before so I'm wondering what exactly you're right-clicking. When you right-click any cell in the worksheet you get a menu of options. When you right-click a cell in a PivotTable one of those options is to 'Refresh'.
