Hello.  I've created a Power Automate routine to refresh a particular workbook daily, then close the workbook.  The workbook captures daily closing prices for several securities using the Stock Data Type feature. While the workbook needs to be updated daily, it does not need to be reviewed daily, hence the desire to create a routine to automatically update the workbook.

At this point, the flow in Power Automate is:

  1. Launch Excel
  2. Select Tab in Window (to go to the Data Tab and click Refresh All)
  3. Close Excel
  4. TBD Set the daily run time for the flow

The flow is failing on the Close Excel step.  The error message is "Failed to close Excel instance."  No other instances of the workbook are open.

Any help with resolving this error and how to set the run time is greatly appreciated!!

Hi Tom,

This forum isn't for Power Automate, afraid we can't help.

Try posting your problem here Microsoft Power Automate Community - Power Platform Community

Hi Phil,

With the advancements in tools like Office Scripts and Power Automate vis a vis Excel, do you anticipate coverage of these topics in the future?  It appears their respective roles in Excel are only going to increase.

Many thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Do you mean coverage by us?  We'll probably look at covering Office Scripts but not sure about Power Automate.  The difference is Office Scripts are directly a part of Excel and relevant for Excel users.  Power Automate is an external program for automating things, not just Excel, so your average Excel user may never use it.

Regards

Phil
