Hi,

I have a spreadsheet with daily columns and weekly totals (every 7 columns). On another tab I have weekly totals in consecutive columns  Each time I extend the Daily details I have to add totals by week to the other tab. I cannot do a straight copy as it only increments by 1 and not by 7. How can I automatically increment by 7 columns each time I copy across to the adjacent column?

Right-click and drag, and it will pop up an options box go down to "Series..." change "Step Value" to 7. Mynda has a video specifically addressing the series dialog box starting at around the 4:46 minute mark. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jessica, I tried what you suggested and it didn't do what I needed. I don't think I explained myself clearly. I have a cell reference to another worksheet in a spreadsheet and need to put a cell reference in the next column that is incremented by 7. For instance copying A1 and making it G1 in the adjacent column.

Perhaps the attached file can help you on your way. Though, I would recommend to not have one sheet with daily figures and a weekly total every 8th column and pick-up the weekly totals in another sheet.
Better to capture all transactions in one singel table and have one column for the date. Then you can use Excel's built-in time-intelligence functions / pivot tables to summarise the lot by week, mont, quarter or year,
