Hello,

Not sure if this is an Excel question, please let me know if I should change forum.

I have a database with about 1000 locations with correct Latitude and Longitude and name of the building I want to track.

What I want to do is to map this with the Köppen Geiger climate zones, to be able to compare the sites performance within the same climate zone. Since the same climate zone can be in multiple locations, I need to find a way to match my locations.

I have manged to load the Climate zones in Power BI with ArcGis

Simple example:

My unit list looks like this:

Building                Latitude         Longitude     Climate Zone

Building 652          44.87             -63.55         NEEDS TO BE LOOKED UP

By looking at the map, I know that the building is in "Warm summer continental" zone, and its name is Dfb in the Köppen geiger system. Since it's so many sites, I need this to be working automatically with some kind of lookup thing. OR, if anyone knows of a way to do it outside Excel.

I have found a great source here: https://ggis.un-igrac.org/layers/igrac:other_climate_2007_koppen_geiger/metadata_detail

It's possible to download Excel file, Shape file and even geoJson, but I can't figure out how to match it with my units in Excel format with Lat and Long.

Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Mattias,

I downloaded the Excel file from the source you referenced, and I can't see how you'd use that in Excel to lookup latitude and longitude coordinates to find what climate zone they fall into. Presumably you'd need a formula that can map the latitude and longitude coordinates between the multipolygon coordinates, but that's beyond my math skills, sorry.

Hopefully someone else in the forum has some ideas.

Hi,

Thanks for trying! Yeah, it's not easy and I was afraid I would get that answer but it was worth a try!
