I have a xlsm spreadsheet that I use regularly. When I open it, I get the message that the workbook contains links to other data sources.
When I click on edit links, a source comes up showing the name of the spreadsheet and the location.
When I follow guidance to Find external references in cells, whatever part of the link I try to find, I always get "Microsoft Excel cannot find the data you're searching for".
Could this link be hidden somewhere else in the workbook?
Regards,
TimC
Did you look in the VBA code??
Hi Frans,
There is no such thing as vba links.
@TimC:
Most probably, there is a defined name that points to another file, you have to edit those names. Another place to sesarch is in shapes hyperlinks, these are the plces that can hold a link o another workbook.
Hello Catalin,
Many thanks - there were some range names referring to an external workbook. I don't remember, but I probably moved (copied?)
a sheet from that workbook onto my own. Wouldn't Excel warn me about the links at the time?
Kind regards,
TimC
No, Excel will not tell you that a link was created when you copy a sheet to another book. You will get a warning only when there is a name conflict, if there is already a defined name with the same name in the target workbook.
But you can always check the links from Data-Links. If there are no external links, the Links button will be greyed out.
