The example below on cell 1 is dealing with complete names, last names and middle names and on the other cell only middle initial.  How can I use Conditional Formatting or any VLOOKUP to find just the last name of each cells and automatically highlighted the same value (or last name).

Thank you. Willy

Cell 1

Arnold Casey James  Arnold Casey J
Smith Josh Song  Smith Josh S
Ford Tel Star  Ford Tel S
Chambers Rick Young  Chambers Rick Y

Hi Willy

Don't quite understand your question. What is it that you wanted to highlight?

Can you show us the expected result from your attachment above?

Hello Willy,

I am not really sure if I understand your purpose here, but I understand it as such that you have a list of names and from that list you want to highlight the names from a search box. Given that scenario I have created a simple sample file for you to check.

I use a table for the list, as it gives advantages compared to using a range. You can add new rows of names and the conditional formatting will apply for the new rows as well. The search fields I have in cells A2, B2 and C2. Cell D2 is just there to show how you can use a database function to get the full name. Just remember it will show the result only if there is one hit, for two or more results it will be an error. The conditional formatting will highlight all rows that matches though, and that is the main purpose with this exercise.

Check it out. I hope I have understood you good enough.

Happy Holiday's!
