When using ="sheet name"$A$1 as a formula in a different sheet how do you copy the formatting of the master cell to the slave as well?

Hi Chris,
Formulas do not copy formatting, they only copy the underlying cell value. If you want formatting applied, you need to either do that manually, or use VBA to automate it.
