I'm getting the really helpful message Document not saved when I try to save a workbook (23MB size) in Excel 2010. I've looked on Google for help, and have tried saving the file under a different name, on a different drive etc to no avail. I had saved it earlier this morning without a problem, but it's not saving now.
Any thoughts?
I also tried to find a customisable alerts file (whatever that is) on the Microsoft Office web-site without success.
Hi Tim,
Try saving to your desktop as a .xlsb file.

Just to share a similar experience from a colleague of mine a couple of years back.
She had no problem saving the file until she renamed it. She was then unable to save the file and there was no error message whatsoever.
I managed to trace the issue to the length of the file path+name exceeding the 255 characters limit under Windows. All she did was added one extra character to the file name e.g. XXXX9 to XXXX10 and that was the problem.

Thanks for your suggestions. In the end I had to bite the bullet, and lose a couple of hours work.
I now remember that in the morning I had a glitch early on in the morning, and looking at the Event Viewer later I found the following "An unexpected error has occurred. AutoRecover has been disabled for this session of Excel".
Whether I could have changed anything in Excel options I don't know. Still, today is another day.
