I assume you want to enter a name expect Data Validation list to show all names that contains the text AL (for example) such as ALEX,ALLEN,CALLIE etc. It is not possible. I have attached an example how it can be done using a userform.

You cannot increase the size (number of lines displayed) of the DV dropdown box. Maximum is 8 lines.

Shortcut for creating dropdown box is Alt DL and any cell in excel can the length of any cell in excel can be automated by Alt HOI

Perhaps ,if you have the file send it and we can analyze the problem.
