   Hello Friend;

      This is Mitul.

        Good Morning

         Please see  "Textonly"  worksheet in small workbook attached below.

             I entered  EXCEL, WORD , PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, EXCEL 365, WORD 365, before entering these phrases , I entered formula in  Data validation - Settings - allow - clicked on custom  , then, entered formula - ISTEXT(A1), then, clicked on "Apply these changes to all other cells.... & then,   error message  "This cell accepts text only. NOT NUMBERS.", when I entered EXCEL 365,   why  this error message is not popping up  on screen ?  Please explain me how ISTEXT works.    Thank you.  Have a great day.

Hello Mitul,

I can't find anything wrong in your file, for me it works as you want it to, as long as I don't type in only numbers or try to write a formula where the result is not text. I am currently checking with Excel for Mac, but I can't see that it should be any difference using Windows version.

For more information about ISTEXT function you should check out this page that Mynda wrote some time ago.

Hi Mitul

The word EXCEL 365 is text and not number even though part of it is a number. That is why no error message appears.

For the error message to appear, what you enter must only be numbers and nothing else.
