Custom Number Format - how to add to menu

I am constantly generating financial reports with monetary numbers.  I have to go through several steps to format the value in the desired format.

I use the "accounting" number format.

Then I change decimals to zero.

Then I choose none for the currency symbol.

How would I just create a custom format I can choose from the format selection that does all these steps in one click?

Hi David,

You can either record a macro that applies that formatting and then assign it to a button on the QAT (Quick Access Toolbar) or a shortcut key. Or you can customise your default workbook to contain that formatting.

Hope that helps.

I was wondering why you don't use the 'number' format, so you don't have to delete the currency symbol?

And second I think you can make a custom format with these settings and use that for the next report (maybe you have to have the report with these settings open, or (as Mynda says) you save it as a default workbook setting.

Hi Frans,

Custom Number Formats are only available in the current file. So if you want to use them in a different file then you need to set them up again, or use the options I suggested above.
