Hi,

I'm using a few sumifs statements to add some numbers and I'm wondering if there is a more efficient way.  I've only indicated two groups of data for this example but I have more in my original spreadsheet.

I can't change the format of how I'm capturing the data because it fits with a larger more complex spreadsheet.  It also makes sense to the user who populates it.

I'm trying to wrap my head around if I can use an array formula or the index/match functions. Is there something I'm not thinking about.  I haven't completed the advanced excel course yet so I don't know if there fancy tip that is covered in the course or maybe just missed.

Hi Angela,

When your data is laid out in the wrong format, as you already identified, there are often no simple solutions. The formula you're using works and is more efficient than an array formula is likely to be so I'd stick with it....unless of course you can fix the data layout to something tabular!
