I purchased the Excel Expert Class about 2 weeks ago and was just upgraded to Excel 2016. I haven't had much time working in Excel 2016, but was hoping that I would still benefit from the Excel Expert Class for 2013. From the few videos I viewed on Excel 2016 I didn't notice much of a difference other than Power Query is no longer an Add-in in the 2016 version, but rather part of the Data tab.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any other major changes to the versions that would affect or confuse me as I take the 2013 course? Any info is greatly appreciated.
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,
I already replied to your email on this same topic but I'll reply here for the benefit of others too.
Excel 2013 and Excel 2016 are almost identical, so what you learn in the Excel 2013 courses will apply to 2016, which a slight exception for Power Query. As you’ve already discovered, Power Query is no longer an add-in and the tab that was once on the ribbon is now in the Data tab of the ribbon. All that has happened is that the icons that used to take up a whole ribbon have been squashed down into drop down buttons in the Get & Transform group on the Data tab in 2016. Once you open the Power Query Editor window everything is identical to Excel 2010 and 2013.
So, the bottom line is you’ll have to map the 2013 Power Query ribbon buttons you see in the videos to what you see in the Data tab Get & Transform group in Excel 2016, but it’s dead easy.
The only other major change in Excel 2016 is you have some new charts: https://www.myonlinetraininghub.com/new-charts-in-excel-2016
