Any advice on cutting and pasting a chart with option buttons would be gratefully received...

If I create a chart controlled by option buttons on my analysis tab, group the buttons and the chart and then attempt to cut and paste it onto my dashboard worksheet, Excel crashes every time.

I have attempted this on different machines with Excel 2010 and 2016, and with different files.

The same thing happens with the dashboard course download file for Session 5. Using the chart in rows 103-116 of the "Form Controls" worksheet, if I group Mynda's chart and the buttons then cut and paste onto a different worksheet... crash.

I have also tried cutting and pasting the chart and buttons separately, but then the option buttons are non-functioning pictures which are of no use.

Does one just have to build the chart and associated option buttons on the dashboard worksheet? (Note for Mynda - if so, should this be mentioned in the course?)

Hi Steve,

It sounds like Excel doesn't like when you do that. I tested it using the session 5 form control chart & buttons and didn't have a problem, so it may be something specific to your PC.

Looks like you'll have to build your chart on the sheet you want it to go.

Mynda,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

It is strange as I had the same issue on different PCs and with Excel 2010 and 2016, but building the chart on the destination sheet is what I will do...

Or maybe it's a 2010/2016 issue. I tested in 2013. Unlikely though.

I too encountered the same problem like Steve (Excel 2010 hangs). It only happens if you cut and paste the chart with the buttons together.

It will not happen if you cut and paste the chart and buttons separately.

@ Steve - "I have also tried cutting and pasting the chart and buttons separately, but then the option buttons are non-functioning pictures which are of no use."

Do not paste the buttons on the chart it self. Paste it on the worksheet and then move it onto the chart.
