Hi all,

Not sure whether I can allow the expand/collapse functionality in a protected sheet.

Would it require VBA?

Many thanks,

Oana

Hi Oana,

You just need to unprotect the Pivot Charts that have the expand/collapse functionality and then check the box 'use PivotTables and PivotCharts'.

Thanks Mynda. Expand and Collapse buttons now work on unprotected Bar Charts. However, the user is able to also resize, move, format the unprotected charts. I did select in Format Chart Area, Size (Lock aspect ratio), Properties (Don’t move or size with cells) but the outcome seems to be the same. Not sure whether it’s just a compromise I need to accept :).

kind regards,

oana

Yes, it's a compromise you have to accept, unfortunately.

Mynda, besides using the expand/collapse buttons, which are useless while the chart is locked; is there any way to have a user switch between the category and subcategory using some other method or data configuration?

Thx

Mike

Hi Mike,

You could create two charts, one at the category level and one at the subcategory level and put a hyperlink from the category level chart to the subcategory level chart. The hyperlink could be on a button shape on the face of the chart that says, 'click to view subcategories' or similar. This chart can be on another sheet, or another location on the same dashboard sheet.

The subcategory chart then has a link back to the category chart.

Thank you Mynda. I'll look into the hyperlink idea.

I should have also mentioned that Hyperlinks are covered in lesson 5.25 of the Dashboard course.
