I appreciate any tips you may have.

I have 2 compactors and data for 3 years.  Sept. 2019 I got a baler.  I would like to project the savings by implementing a baler over using only compactors.  We receive revenue from the bales.

Information:

Compactor:  monthly rent, haul fee, disposal fee, tons

Baler:  baler fee, pickup fee, check for difference.

I have my chart displaying data but how would I go about projecting the tons (baler) & savings by not being placed in the compactor.  This would have accumulated additional haul fees and disposal fees.

Thank you.

Hi Tmac,

Welcome to our forum!

Your question "how would I go about projecting the tons (baler) & savings by not being placed in the compactor" isn't an Excel question, it's an accounting question.

If I were you, I'd calculate the standard cost per ton by compactor vs the standard cost per ton by baler, then you can multiply the cost difference by number of tons the baler produced to calculate the saving (assuming it costs more to produce a ton with the compactor).

If you have any Excel questions we'd be happy to help.

Hello Mynda,

Thank you for your reply.  I didn't explain myself very well.  I know how to calculate the math; I don't know how I can create another axis on my chart to portray the projection what the compactors would have been if we didn't have the baler.  Can this be done or can I create another chart and overlay on the existing chart.

Thank you very much for your reply.  Your tutorials have helped me a lot and I'm looking at which course I should take.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for clarifying. You can only add a series to a Pivot Chart where that series is in the PivotTable that's feeding the Pivot Chart. If you need to calculate the savings outside of the PivotTable then you can create a regular chart from a PivotTable that will allow you to add another series.

I hope that points you in the right direction, but please come back if you get stuck.
