Adding data to a chart series

I was looking at the sample file in your Excel for Decision Making video course,  and I saw something I couldn't figure out.  In the sample video, the instructor created an X-Y chart, then added some data to the end of the data range for the chart, then selected the new data (4 values in a single column at the bottom of the old data),  used CRTL-C to copy, switched to the chart, selected the chart area, and used CTRL-V to paste the data into the chart.  When he did that, the data were appended to the end of the existing curve.  When I do it, I get a new series.  I've tried every way I can think of to get the data to append, including selecting the data series before pasting, to no avail.  Which leads to 2 questions:

1) In your video courses, is there a provision to answer student questions such as this?  And,

2)  Can someone tell me how to append data to a data series using cut and paste?  I've been searching online for some time, and can find lots of suggestions for appending data to a table or for adding a new data series, but nothing to answer this.

Thanks for any help here.

Hi Glenn,

Which tutorial was this in, i.e. what number?

Also, yes you can ask questions in the forum for the specific courses you're enrolled in. Those dedicated member forums are listed under the heading 'Course Members Only' on the forum home page.

Mynda:

I do not know the course number.  I was looking at  the descriptive material trying to decide if I wanted to take it.  Here's the link:

https://www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-for-decision-making-course

On that, there's a sample video in which the cut/paste was done.

Hi Glenn,

That sample video has also downloadable files, you can download them to see how data is structured.

It's hard to tell what's happening on your side, without seeing the file you are working on. Is the structure the same as in the sample video or your data has a slightly different layout?

If you can upload a sample file, we can investigate the problem.
